| "Sevilla
tiene un sabor especial" (Seville has
a special flavour), so goes a traditional Spanish song that
explains, as well as can be done in just a few words, the
special feeling that greets all visitors who arrive in Seville.
Seville and Andalusia have long been a major
attraction for teaching English. Now you can complete the
Trinity Cert TESOL certificate course at our Seville centre
200 hundred metres from the Giralda Tower.
The
fourth largest city in Spain, the capital of the famous Andalusian
region, Seville combines the old and the new, the Moorish
and the Christian in a spectacular manner. But beyond the
wonderful architecture, the Alcazares, the churches, convents
and monasteries, the Cathedral with its "Giralda"
tower that still dominates the Sevillian skyline. Part of
its treasure includes Casa de Pilatos, the Town Hall, Archive
of the Indies (where the historical records of the American
continent are kept), the Fine Arts Museum (the second largest
picture gallery in Spain).
Seville is home to many
spacious parks on the banks of the Guadalquivir Rive r,
most notably, the Maria Luisa park -that housed the 1929 Exposition,
and where parts of the new Star Wars prequels have been filmed.
These parks provide a sharp contrast with the city centre
and its tiny streets, where cars seem more out of place than
the horse-driven carriages that can still be seen throughout
the centre. Seville is famous throughout Spain for its religious
festivals, such as Easter Week and the Corpus Christi, when
incredibly ornate baroque floats are borne through the streets
of the city. A real treat for the senses, these festivals
can be enjoyed in a truly authentic manner in some of the
smaller more traditional neighbourhoods in Seville such as
Triana. This is an area, until recently, the gypsy quarter
of Seville, where some of the purer strains of flamenco can
still be enjoyed.
The
April Feria (Fair), which takes over Sevillian
life just after Easter, is one of Spain's most popular festivals.
During the festival, a week-long party of drink, food and
dance which takes place day and night in more than a thousand
especially mounted tents, People from all parts of the world
can enjoy the daily bullfights, eating, drinking and dancing
sevillanas till the early hours.
